        1. Specialty Orientation and Training Specifications

        1.1 Specialty Orientation

        Medical institutions’ demand oriented, with the cultivation of professional skills being the core, the specialty fosters comprehiensive medical talents with basic theoretical knowledge and skills in Basic Medicine, Clinical Medicine and General Practice who can engage in works concerning medical treatment, preventions and protection, recovery and so on.

        Employments aim at medical institutions at different levels.

        1.2 Training Specifications

        1.2.1 Ability Goals

        1.2.1.1 Professional abilities: Be able to collect health history comprehensively, systematically, and correctly, to conduct physical and mental examination systematically, to record case history in the right way. Have good clinical thinking and expression ability; have the ability to diagnose common and frequently-occurring disease, to treat them and to prevent them. Be able to deal with emergencies and serve in the community health centers.

        1.2.1.2 Social abilities

        Be able to communicate effectively with patients and their family members; Have the ability to coordinate with the doctors, nurses and other medical staff; Be able to conduct publicity and educational activities on health ways of living and disease prevention among patients and the public.

        1.2.1.3 The ability to use tools: Be skillful in using computer to get and process information.

        1.2.1.4The ability to learn and innovate: have the ability to learn by himself and learn for life;  be able to integrate professional skills to innovate and renovate.

        1.2.2 Knowledge Goals

        1.2.2.1 Master the knowledge and skills in social and natural science as long as they are concerned with medicine.

        1.2.2.2 Master the basic knowlede and theories in Basic Medicine, Clinical Medicine, General Practice and Prevention.

        1.2.2.3 Master the diagnose and prevention of common disease and frequently-occurring diseases.

        1.2.2.4 Be familiar with the basic contents and working principles of health education, community health survey, disease prevention and other works related with community health service.

        1.2.3 Attitude Goals

        1.2.3.1 Establish a scientific outlook on the world, life and values. Have a healthy mind and body. Serve the grass-root medical institutions on his own initiative and be people’s health guardian.

        1.2.3.2 Have the humanitarian spirits to value life and care for patients. Consider the prevention of diseases and elimination of pains as his life-long responsibility. Regard the providing of hospice care as his moral responsibility and the safeguarding of people’s health benefits as his professional duty.

        1.2.3.3 Establish the concept of life-long learning, attach great importance to medical work ethics and respect patients’ privacy as well as their dignity.

        1.2.3.4 Have the communication and coordination awareness, risk awareness and right-protecting awareness.

        1.2.3.5 Know about the public welfare, benefit and service of grass-root health unit. Give consideration to the benefits of patients and their families and endeavour to maximize the effectiveness of health resources.

         2. Personnel Traning Mode

        Department of Clinical Medicine has constructed the 2 + 1 personnel traning mode that combines the college with health care industry and the hospital. In their sophomore year, students will learn specialized courses and receive professional training given by the college’s medical practice center and the teaching hospital. In their third year, they will work as interns at hospitals and community health centers.

 

 

 

         3. Curriculum System Construction and Course Construction

        The curriculum system construction is based on the principle: “hospitals deeply engaged, professional standard oriented, specialized courses conforming to working process and taking student’s comprehensive quality into account. Under such principle,  the curriculum system and the practical teaching system have been established that are geared to the national medical reform policies, to the national standards of practice, to the job position requirements and to students’ long-term development as well as personality development. The curriculum design doesn’t confine itself to the disciplinary architecture only. Instead it combines theory with practice, focuses on students’ professional competence and modularized the structure based on the working process. The teaching methods and ways are reformed based principle of  “more clinical practice at an earlier time” in mind. In the teaching of basic medical courses, lots of clinical cases are introduced and case-based teaching is conducted, in order to combine basic theories with clinical knowledge, and the in the teaching of medical clinical courses, real clinical cases are adopted and teaching is carried out at the hospital bed.The reform of teaching methods and ways has made clinical skills and clinical diagnosis thinking penetrate the teaching process.  By adhering to the combination of teaching with learning and doing, four intergrations (the intergration of teacher and physician, of the leaning process and working process, of the teaching sites and the hospital, of the students and the professionals” have been realized.

         4. Teaching Team Construction

        The teaching team of clinical medicine was rated the provincial-level specialized teaching team, with the Li Xuelan being appointed as the team leader in 2009. The teaching team ,made up of both part-time and full-time teachers, has 1 provincial exemplary teacher, 4 professional  from the Ten-Hundred-Thousand Talents Project in Changde City. There are 129 teachers all together, among which 72 are full-time teachers are 56 work on a part time basis. Among the full-time teachers, there are 26 professors and chief physician, 13 associate professors and physican, and 14 lecturers and attending physicians. 16 teachers are holders of master’s degree or doctor’s degree and are aged under 45. In the past three years, the teachers have won the second prize of teaching achievement, secured  third prizes of Changde Scientific Progress four times, finished 5 projects at provincial level or about, 17 municipal projects and published 205 papers, among which 83 were published on core journals. Also they have been actively engaging in compiling the school-based teaching materials. They have finished 18 teaching materials, among which 12 have been published.

        5. Construcion of Practice Conditions

        The department of clinical medicine has two training centers, one for basic medicine and the other for clinical medicine on campus and one life science building, with an area of 22000 square kilometers and equipments worth of 16 million yuan. In the training center for basic medicine, there are the morphology lab, the ergology labs and the molecular biology lab and so on. In the training center for clinical medicine are specimen room, simulation auscultation room, simulation puncture room, ECS, 14 standardized clinical skills examination station and so on. The department has 2 affiliated hospitals, 3 teaching hospitals, 18 intern hospitals, and 8 grass-root intern bases, making it among the third traning colleges that train the outstanding vocational teachers, the training sites for grass-root midwife, rural doctors and so on. It is also an important base that provides rural doctors with further education opportunities, such as correspondence education and so on.
